  5. depicted as jutting out toward 
  6. the observer, for example, a 
  7. snapshot of someone reaching 
  8. straight out to wave at the 
  9. photographer. Viewed from the 
  10. side, the arm still seems to 
  11. reach out toward us. If we 
  12. viewed a real arm outstretched 
  13. in this way from the side, it 
  14. would project quite differently: 
  15. as we moved to the side of the 
  16. real person, the projection of 
  17. the arm would become 
  18. increasingly horizontal. But 
  19. when we view the picture from 
  20. the side, the orientation of the 
  21. arm in the picture remains 
  22. more or less unchanged, and we 
  23. continue to see the arm
  24. pointing toward us.
  25.
